‘I have something for you that I’ve been saving for if you had a son.’ my mom said to me.

My interest more than peaked I respond, ‘Really? What is it?!’

‘You’re micro machines’ she replied with a smile, ‘I’ve been saving them all so that when you had a son we could give them to him. They were basically the only toys you didn’t play with so hard that they became virtually unusable.’

Ever since we had this conversation I’ve been super excited to get my hands on these toys again. Um, I mean, get these cars in Wyatt’s hands. And as you can see he LOVES them. He puts together the city and moves the tiny cars all around the room.

I kind of knew it all along. Of course that is a lot easier to say that now!

I vividly remember my very first baseball game. My dad came home early from work, picked me up at a friend’s house, and we headed off to the Kingdome.

I remember the dark concrete walls and how stunningly green the AstroTurf was in contrast. I had my glove on my left hand and before the night was through my dad had given me baseball cards for my right. A Mariners team set. Out of all the games that I’ve been too, that visit to the Kingdome is etched deepest in my mind.

Tonight we took Wyatt to his first M’s game. They lost 7-3, it was really cold and we only made it to the seventh inning, but seeing Wyatt’s face as he tried to take in everything around him was priceless. The memories from tonight, sharing kettle corn, running together in the empty upper deck walkways will stand right there with the first game I ever went to with my dad.

Week 16!! A friend with two kids recently said to me, ‘through no fault of your own the second child will get nowhere near the attention the first did.’ Apparently this starts during pregnancy even. Week result pictures were practically written on the calendar the first time. The second time the intent is still there, buy the follow through is inconsistent.

View from the upper deck. A few foul balls came mighty close to us.

Baby Two: Boy or Girl?

‘Do you want a boy or girl?’ is a question you’d think I’d be getting more of as we await the arrival of Baby Two. Instead of this question I’ve been hearing, ‘I hope you have a girl’ or ‘You guys totally need to have a girl’ or ‘Its totally a girl’.

Funny thing is I think that I really want a boy and I’ve felt guilty about it. Like if it’s a girl I might feel disappointed or something. I know that I wont, it’s just the illogical mind dealing with the complete unknown, but it stills weighs on me.

The other night eating her nightly bowl of Raisin Nut Bran, which ends as a bowl of milk on the table next to the sofa the next morning which is exactly what happen last pregnancy, Megan turned to me.

“You know, if they tell us it’s a boy I’m going to be really excited right away, but if it’s a girl I’ll still be really excited, but I think that I’ll get more and more excited over time.”

And that was it. The heart of my thoughts as well. If the doctor tells us in two weeks that we are having a boy I’m going to be thrilled, largely because I know the joy of having a son. It’s a known in the face of the unknown. Not that I won’t be any less excited if it’s a girl, it will just grow over time as it sets in.

So do I think it’s a boy or girl?

Well, when I found out Megan was pregnant I thought immediately that we were having twin girls. Over time I’ve gone back and forth I think like most expecting parents. Like the milk story above the pregnancy has been largely the same for Megs. Wanting the same food and he same time feeling pretty much the same. Some people would take this as a sign, and it certainly could be, that we are having a boy, or it could just be the way that her body handles pregnancy. The doctor did tell her that she must be built for breeding.

In my gut at this moment I think we are going to have a boy, but as soon as I hit post that could change. What I do know is that no matter what, the end of September can’t come fast enough. I’m excited to have our family grow and welcome the new one into our midst.

Happy 2nd Birthday Wyatt! You are such a special little guy and your mom and I are so thankful for every moment we get to spend with you.

Oh, and if you are wondering, yes I did buy Wyatt his first guitar for his birthday and it was the gift he was most excited about. He wanted it out of the box right away and wanted to jam with me. Good thing I had tuned and tested it.
